Knowing Peace

I hope and pray that you were able to enjoy this gorgeous weekend! I may have enjoyed the sun a little too much and got a little sun-kissed!  I won’t lie though, it is so refreshing to be able to sit outside and enjoy the warmth of the sun, fresh air and the sounds and smells of spring.

As promised, the next couple of weeks, I want to share with you some nuggets that I got from this year’s Colour Conference that I went to in London a couple of weeks ago.

During the first night of Colour, Pastor Bobbie Houston talked about this year’s theme: Peace.  I think we can all agree that this world is a far cry from peaceful.  Between the wars, famines, and floods, to the demands on our daily lives as daughters, sisters, friends, mothers, grandmothers, working women, leaders, etc., peace is an unnatural part of this life, in this world.  AND that is precisely one of the things Jesus came to bring us: peace.  Jesus said to His disciples, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) If we know Jesus, then we know Peace, because Jesus IS Peace.  Notice that Jesus didn’t say, “In this world I will take away all the trouble so that you will have peace.”  No, He said, “in spite of the troubles you will face, in Me, you will have peace.”

The crazy reality is that Peace actually lives within us, for God is Peace and if we know Jesus, then the Spirit of God is living inside of us, is part of our very being.  There’s something to chew on for a while. 🙂  This also means that we carry the revolution of peace with us as we carry the presence of Jesus Christ within in us wherever we go.  Jesus sent us into this world to continue to establish the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.  Heaven is FILLED with peace.  If you want to see more peace in this world, start moving ’cause it’s in you. 🙂

The benefits of knowing Who our Peace is, are twofold: 1) We get to experience peace in our own lives no matter what we’re going through; and 2) we get to create an oasis of peace in this world and in our communities.  As the Church, this is our calling.  Imagine the ways that we can impact the lives of those who come into our presence if we truly KNOW the Peace who is in us and reflect that into this world.

Remember that night when Jesus and the disciples were on the boat in the middle of the lake in the midst of a raging storm, and Jesus slept through the storm as the disciples were freaking out?  On the flight from Amsterdam to London, our plane got struck by lightening and created a huge fire ball.  The pilot came on the overhead and reassured everyone that our plane was okay and that there was no need to panic or to freak out.  I slept through the whole thing.  I literally missed all of it! I never even had the chance to worry because I was seriously at peace. 🙂 I pray that this week, in the midst of the storms and lightening strikes in our lives, we will more deeply know the Peace that is within us.
