Own Your Zone

This past weekend, River Valley Church hosted their annual Sparkle Conference!  And let me tell you what, it was fabulous!  This year, they brought in internationally known pastor, author and speaker Charlotte Gambill (from Abundant Life Church in England).  All of Charlotte’s messages seriously hit home.  The first one especially spoke to me (and other women leaders who attended) as a leader and a woman.  Let me share with you a recap of it!

First, let’s read Proverbs 24:30-34 : “I walked by the field of a lazy person, the vineyard of one with no common sense.  I saw that it was overgrown with nettles. It was covered with weeds, and its walls were broken down.  Then, as I looked and thought about it, I learned this lesson:  A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.

In the Bible  the vineyard speaks of a place with heaps of potential:  vines, grapes, wine, growth, new life, etc.  It speaks of the potential for wealth, fruit, growth a harvest, prosperity, etc.  But, as this passage says, it just takes a little bit of apathy (e.g. a little extra sleep, a little folding of the hands, etc.) for the enemy to say ‘I will take that…’ and suddenly our vineyard is overgrown with nettles, covered in weeds and it’s protective walls have fallen down.  Moral of the story: You need to OWN your zone lest it become ruins!

The sphere that God has given you is your zone:  your career, your family, your ministry, your neighborhood, your friends, etc.  Are you maximizing you zone?  All it takes is a little “whatever” attitude for the enemy to take it over.  Picture yourself sleeping in a little longer or standing there with your arms folded. What kind of attitude accompanies you when you usually do this? Yep, “whatever.”

The enemy will take over whatever YOU let out of your zone.  If you have a “whatever” apathetic attitude about something, the enemy will come in and take it faster than you can even imagine.  And if you’re blaming everyone else for how things are, know this:  blame just deflects everything out of your zone like its everyone else’s fault.

We have got to know how to take authority.  We already have spiritual authority in our zones!  We need to use it!  Are you putting up with stuff that Christ went to the cross and paid for?  God wants to work for you, but God really wants to work through you.  God cannot do that if you are sleeping or sitting there with your hands folded.  God cannot back you up if you back down.  God cannot stand with you if you are sitting down.

Imagine what might be different 6 months from now if you owned your zone!  God wants to own the zone with you but the Lord of lords is waiting for you to stop being apathetic and to OWN YOUR ZONE!

XOXO,
Alicia
